It's a human Georgie, which I had cut and love, but the back and bottom is a little, well, like hay.

I've tried brushing it, that helps for a wearing or 2, then the hay feeling/look comes back.

Any suggestions? thanks.

Oh, yes, Georgies like to do that, there is no way to get rid of it the only thing that you can do to have it less is wash, conditioner, hair-oil-capsules and after every wearing brush - I did that until I got another brand.
