My 9 yr old ds gets asthma, but only after or during a cold. The past few days, he has been complaining that he's having trouble breathing, so we gave him the nebulizer. Yesterday, after he called from school to complain that he needs a treatment, my dh took him to the doctor. The doctor checked him out and said, b"h, he's fine.

Today, since I was near his school, I went to check on him. He said that he was fine, but he was doing those annoying noises with his mouth like an extra breath. That's just another annoying habit he's doing until he finds another one Confused . I listened to his chest and from what I could tell Rolling Eyes , it was all clear. About 5 minutes later, after drinking cold water pretty quickly, he started complaining that he can't breathe. I listened to his chest again and nothing. I told him it was probably from the water. I told him, tomorrow I'll send him with a paper bag and he should breathe in it if he's having trouble breathing.

Since he was checked out by the doctor, I really think that it's in his head. What can I do besides for sending him to a shrink? Nothing is different in my house or school than before he started this. As I said before, he does get these annoying habits once in awhile, but he really feels that he can't breathe and ends up calling from school. He also ends up getting medicine that he doesn't necessarily need.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I don't know if he needs a shrink, although I could be wrong, he sounds like a kid. He either wants more attention of he's getting a bit panicked. If it's the attention, check out why and perhaps give it to him in other areas if possible. If it's the panic, maybe try to reassure him of his options if he has an attack and that he will be ok.

My 8 yo was sobbing this night because I wouldn’t ‘care’ about his throbbing toes!!!!!!!!! I say play back and see what happens. Make a concoction of lemon, sugar, coloring… give him 2 spoons every day and tell him the doctor said to take it for three weeks.

Did you take him to his pediatrician or his asthma dr? The asthma dr can do a lung function test. His lungs can sound ok, but if he is having shortness of breath the test will show it. Take him to his asthma to find out.

He doesn't have an asthma doctor and I never even heard of one. He saw the pediatrician. B"h, he's not complaining anymore.
