PT/OT/Speech Agency Questions

Hi I am a new therapist and just started working for an agency. My agency asked me if I can add on a home care case that is far from my house and I am not so comfortable with the neighborhood and going into someone's home. The other assignments have been school based which I am more comfortable with.

How can I decline, or can I decline???

What's the question? Of course you can decline

That's the benefit of per diem work through an agency. You can choose which cases you want and which hours you want to work.

Just say "I am not available to take the case." Your agency (and other agencies) are constantly going to be reaching out to you offering cases and you are probably going to decline most of them

I get multiple calls/texts/emails a week offering me cases. I decline all of them as I have a full caseload in a school and a few private cases at home after school and no time or interest in taking more

It doesn't make you look bad

Im a slp. They need you more than you need them. Its not like they are paying us so well either so make your own schedule and set your own rules. You can say "I am unable to take this case on"
If you want cases closer to you say "but I am available in the following zip codes.... "

I personally do not like home care... I am either pregnant or nursing and need to get home to a baby. So I prefer to stick to one site
