From the inside?
Or will it tear anyway?
Why do all their pants get holes at the knee!!

I found they tore only as they were getting too small.
When DS when through a growth spurt- 2 sizes of pants in a couple of months all his pants tore -before and after nothing.
But I only have experience from one son and he's 5. I'm hoping it stays the same throughout though.

In my experience- no. It just allows maybe an extra wash or two if it ripped due to thinning out. But if it ripped due to playing football- it would rip through the patch as well.
I buy target brand uniform pants with reinforced knees. Or children's place uniform pants. CP lasts longer IME but target has their amazing guarantee up to a max $$ per year with the receipts (use their app!! Saves every receipt!!).
Also- don't buy too narrow a pair of pants. I know the style is for skinny pants but if they are too narrow then they rip faster. Not every kid can wear skinny pants and they wear faster with the leg brushing up against the pants each time. Which weakens it structurally.
If the pants are too small they will tear!
