Posting the poem here:

I Dreamed

I dreamed I sat
In that building from so long ago.
The one like a prison
Where I spent hours
And days
And weeks
And months
And years
Draining my spirit.
I dreamt I sat there, caged
Gazing out the windows
At the blue, blue skies
Watching the freewheeling birds
Their stark silhouettes soaring
Across the azure expanse
So wild
So free
So unlike me.

Then, somehow—
I don’t know exactly how
Because I never could—
Suddenly
I stood outside
Of that dark, dark place.
And there
Beyond the forbidding walls
And the forboding stares
Was a beautiful, green lawn
Almost neon bright
Spongy and so soft
That has never
Actually
Been there
In the real world.
But in my dream
There was the lawn.
And I lay down upon it
And I rested
Head tipped back
On my clasped palms
Looking up at the sky
So wild
So free
So safe.
So unintimidated
By That Place.
Allowing its pompous
Self importance
To bleed out
Into pathetic nothingness
Care not
For the bludgeoning walls
The interminable maze of the halls.
The whispers all fade
The harsh words… gone.

Feel the sun on my cheeks
Close my eyes
Smile.
Carefree.

I am flying.

Thank you!
You know, I never thought of myself as being lucky for being able to express myself in writing. I feel like I have no one to share my feelings with, which doesn't make me feel too lucky. But you're right. Thanks for that perspective.
