I'm not surprised at all. Artscroll is very popular among conservative Christians who want a "real" translation of various works. There are enough frum Jews in these circles who recommend Artscroll that word spreads.
There are at least 10-12 people who've purchased the Artscroll Tehillim on my recommendation when it's come up on forums, etc. One of my friends jokes that I should ask for a commission.
There are also a lot of conservative non-Jews who've purchased "Introduction to the Talmud." They hear all kinds of nonsense from various antisemitic personalities, and they want to understand what's really going on. It's fun to watch them realize that Gemara, in particular, is not the same as doctrine.
