I bought/was gifted diaper bags for my first couple of kids. The last two, I just used a shopping bag or threw a diaper and some wipes under the carriage. I found that they ended up being like those bottomless purses. Lots of random stuff ended up in them, went missing, found way too much later. And I generally couldn't find them.
I'm wondering if this is just me. I actually don't own a pocketbook just a wallet with my cards.
Or maybe lots of experienced imas agree that a bag just for babies is another thing you don't really need to buy?

What I liked was a small pouch that fit 2 diapers, and a small bag of wipes and a thin changing pad. It was really compact and fit in my own large bag.
This way I didn’t have to carry around a large bag all the time and it was always on me.
(Sometimes I swerved in a nursing cover)

I definitely use one for first year.
Also, if you send to a babysitter, keeps things organized. I only put baby’s things in there. Organize it daily if sending to babysitter.

I did the opposite OP. Never used one for my first. I used a shopping bag or an old backpack, no problem. But by my second my first was still in diapers and drinking milk bottles, so I had a ton of stuff, found it easier to organize in a diaper bag.

My youngest is a toddler and I still use one. It’s small and compact and fits wipes, pampers, tissues and my wallet. Dc always manages to go dirty when I’m out

My first two kids I didn’t have a diaper bag. My husb hated it. Somehow always forgot to bring something and a shopping bag under the stroller was just such an ugly look. Finally by my third I decided I wasn’t waiting for anyone to gift me one and ordered two diaper bags. A smaller one for trips just with my baby, and a bigger one when I take my other kids with me or a weekend trip. Also bought hooks for the stroller to attach the bags too. Best purchases! Now I have everything I need in there. No few shopping bags for each of the kids stuff. And no ripping bags. Bh!

now that I dont use a stroller I miss it so much.
it was a bag for everyones bottles, tissues, wipes and snacks...
What do you all use now when you go out with kids?
I had some basics that I kept in always - bandages, hair accessories, pads/tampons, a secret stash of small candies for emergencies, and one or 2 diapers
Everything else I would empty and refill each time I went out.

yea if neither you nor your kids leave the house often you don’t need a diaper bag.

I have used a diaper bag as a work bag!
It was just a structured tote

I worked from home too. The Sunday trips and weekend trips drove my husb crazy, because we were always missing things, and nothing was organized. Now when I go to the playground, I have everything in the diaper bag that I need, drinks, snacks, bottles, diapers etc.

ive always worked from home but theres always the trip to the Drs office, shopping for clothes by the new seasons, grocery shopping, trips during vacation etc.
Im expecting my 4th and im so excited to be able have the stroller again for the diaper bag.
I won a small bugaboo bag and I have such mixed feelings if I should use it or sell it. I am sure I will miss that full size bag to fit everything in.

A full diaper bag was useful when I used to send my baby to a babysitter on a daily basis.
For long outings I now use the backpack style that way I can include change of clothes (depending on age) and a snack + bottle. For travel I also include medications (tylenol, melatonin etc.) and any supplies that we need quick access to.
For Shabbos to go to shul where I won't be more than an hour, I have a small totebag with a few diapers and wipes.
