I'm about to buy a used minivan. The dealer is offering a third party extended warranty that covers an additional 125k miles or ten years (whichever comes first). The cost is around $2800 and covers basically anything except for routine maintenance (like brakes, tires, oil changes). I want to hear from those of you that have minivans for that long how much you have spent over that span on repairs?
(repairs are fully covered with 0 deductible)

So you're only paying 2800 once and then you'll get it to last about 16 years?
Sounds almost too good to be true.

We have a minivan that is 14 years old with 133,000 miles
Major repairs we did --
At about year 11 we put in a new transmission for about $3000
This year we spent about $2500 on a new EVAP system
Bh everything else has just been regular wear and tear
That being said, please look into the warranty very closely. Like another poster said its sounds too good to be true. I bought such a warranty with my first car and every single repair was a fight to get covered. I definitely did not get my money's worth out of it

an additional 10 years. Obviously now there are no repairs needed as the dealer is fixing the current issues. Is it a given that every van will need at least 2800 of repairs over the next 10 years? I am assuming the company is calculating that not every car will need that much repairs, some cars will be totaled in an accident, some will be traded and the coverage wont be passed on (although I think for a small fee it can be transferred, but likely wont be unless sold person to person).
I want to hear from others how much they personally spent over the years.

I said 16 years because that's the life of the car by the end of the warranty. A 16 yo car will probably need more repairs than an 11 yo car.
I'm driving a 19 yo minivan that averages 1-2K of work a year for the past several years. At 11-12 yo it barely need anything. My 11 yo big van ba"h has needed no repairs. So I'm referencing the lifespan of the vehicle vs the warranty.

So thats the gamble the company and consumer each take. If the car will still be around the last few year of policy when repairs start adding up.

What model is it?
You're very likely going to need transmission/engine/spark plug/AC/timing belt/power steering/etc work in this timespan.
But have a third party mechanic look over the details of the warranty to see if it really includes the likely coverage you'll need.

I heard that many extended warranties don't cover many basic parts.
In general Toyota minivans are considered very reliable long term and other companies break down a lot.
