I got a new sheitel this summer and when I bought it, the hair texture felt so smooth and silky, but as soon as I washed it, it started to get gross.

I use shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner. I don't normally style it since I noticed that hairspray makes it dry and frizzy as well. It stays smooth for about a week and then it starts tangling and feels almost tacky.

How do I stop this from happening? What secret magic do sheitel machers use to keep the hair silky for months?

FYI this never happens with my wigs after I get them professionally done, but that's not something I can afford right now to do once a month.

I’m a wig maker
Don’t use leave in conditioner opt for Argan oil or oil from mielle instead
Rinse in distilled or pre boiled water, not tap, with vinegar in a bowl before air drying
Wash and condition more often, like don’t leave it without a wash for over a week.
Condition at least 15 mins making sure the conditioner goes through all the strands

Have you tried to see what happens when you don’t put leave in conditioner? Also what company are you using?

Thank you! I've used argan oil before but it leaves the hair greasy. Maybe I'm not doing it right?

What's your technique?
How much vinegar to water?

Yes. It feels frizzy from the start.

It's a sample size I found at Ulta called Pattern. Yellow and black tube.

Shampoo/conditioner is Kristin Ess

Personally, I wouldnt wash a new wig myself.
Id wait as long as possible till I can get a wash and set.

After how long of wearing it did it need a wash the first time?

About 2 months. I think I also ended up curling it a bit and that's when it for gross.

How often do you wash yours?

I dont wash mine myself, because I have zero experience and I wouldnt want to touch a new wig.

If you know how to do it and have done it before thats different.
Same with styling.

But Id be super scared to touch a new one especially if its delicate.
Id rather wait longer in between washes then do it myself.

2months is good I think

Are you sure ur rinsing out all the product? If it feels yucky after styling it that may b an indication not all the shampoo/conditioner was rinsed out all the way

Pre- boiling water is not removing anything from your water. If anything, it's worse. Anything in the water will be more concentrated after boiling it.
