Go with cotton, and baby can wear a cotton sleep sack on top. For temp regulation cotton/bamboo material is best (as opposed to fleece)

With their arms out, not swaddled, sleep sack can go to even toddlerhood (they also make sleep backs so they can walk in them). Just depends on preference.
