I gained 40 pounds while pregnant. Since my baby was born 3 months ago not only have I not lost any weight, I put on another 10 pounds!!! I feel horrible about how I look. I don’t know why I have zero willpower or motivation to diet. It makes no logical sense but I just cannot do it. I’m contemplating ozempic (I have high blood sugar so def can get approved) or another kind of weight loss drug to get me on the right track but I absolutely love nursing and don’t want to give it up when my baby is so young. I’m so torn. What would you do?

Start working with a professional?

My clients all seem to agree that my external help is like borrowing someone else's willpower in a sense.

Much much easier to stick to. Can also work through some of the emotional things and present it all to the professional so they can make a feasible plan for you.

When you have to do all the legwork, it takes more motivation and energy. Outsource some if that work!

Is that an option for you? There are balanced plans that can help you feel more excited about a weight loss journey (not all diets are equal and some are way easier!)

Also. Be kind to yourself! Your body carried and is feeding a baby. It wanted the extra nutrients to care for your baby. It's well intentioned subconscious increased hunger.

But also. Good news is.... when nursing is a great time to lose weight!!!! Can play on that same subconscious thought where the body WANTS to lose weight because it thinks it's going to the baby via nursing (even if losing it another way! )

Pretty cool stuff you might want to look into!!!

Is the high blood sugar contributing to your weight gain?
It's likely a viscious cycle
Start with healthy breakfast with protein
Have you checked your thyroid

No I have not. I know my blood sugar is high bec I was going finger pricks during pregnancy and I see the numbers haven’t gone down. I think I need to make an appt by an endocrinologist .
What boggles my mind more is the lack of motivation/will power. I hate how I look and feel but keep reaching for the cookies 🙈

You just gave birth 3 months ago. Anyone who is thin before that has a natural given gift. In addition to giving birth and recovering, you are a nursing mom which can make you very very hungry. I know the feeling all too well. My first suggestion is to take baby steps. Concentrate on how much water you drink. Whenever you are hungry drink water first. You definitely should focus on eating balanced meals and healthy snacks and trying to stay away from cake chocolate cookies and ice cream. Meaning a bagel with tuna is better than. Cake and ice cream. Definitely check your thyroid as well. Also, know that some nursing moms weight just stay and it's very difficult to lose weight. You are not alone. Really planning ahead helps a lot! Like a bowl of cheerios and milk and a banana and coffee for breakfast, Greek yogurt with granola for snack and sandwich with a salad for lunch, a regular balanced supper. Eat grapes and apples. Buy peppers and cauliflower and broccoli. I have 30-40 pounds to lose and know the feeling very well. It's a slow process.

Gestational diabetes is supposed to go away after pregnancy, if you think you have pre-diabetes or chvs diabetes please see a doctor and check A1C levels

It’s not so easy to get insurance covered ozempic, high blood sugar will not do it IME (I’m pre-diabetic)

Once you get an official diagnosis your insurance will cover a nutritionist who can help!

But please go to the dr and take your health seriously

When I went for my 6 weeks pp appointment they did bloodwork. Wouldn’t they have seen if the glucose levels were elevated then?

A1C is not on a regular blood panel if you don't ask it. It's easy to add as a marker but it's not automatically checked unless you/your chart indicates something.

Can you access your labs from that test to see if you have results for that?

What worked for me for motivation was the first 3 chapters of Body & Soul, which gave me a Torah hashkafah on my body and the mitzvah of shmiras haguf.
