My daughter has been asking for one and I am wondering a) if it’s worth the price and the subscription cost b) where they are sold in local stores that I can get assistance in setting it up

In terms of being "worth it", if you like the newest music and and usually buy at least one CD a month, it's worth it.

For me, the "worth it" question is based on what is it replacing. In my case it was replacing a smartphone (consolation prize for not getting a smartphone) so definitely worth it.
In some cases (like if it's replacing a regular mp3 player) I'd ask the teen to pay the subscription.
