Last week we recieved a new Bar b que, so I had to take the racks to the Mikveh to be tovelled!! They are very heavy. I got up to dunk one, and the thing escaped me and sunk to the bottom!! I tried everything to get that thing out!! Needless to say you can guess what happened!! I got home looking like a drowned cat!

here in the dish mikva in Montreal, they have a "fishing rod". It's a string with a big magnet attached to it so if anything metal falls to the bottom you can easily retrieve it.

we have a mikvah with a net in the middle, so you can reach whatever you dropped.

I also saw others that use carry-on shopping baskets - you drop thinkgs into the basket & it catches the stuff

We actually have a dish mikveh in Pittsburgh. There is a shallow side for silver ware and small items and a deeper area for bigger pots. It's actually easy to toivel dishes.

this reminds me, one erev pesach my father went to toivel new silverware. one of the spoons dropped out of his hand and he wasn't able to get it up with the net. He actually locked the door , took of his clothes and took a dip!!
We were rolling when he told us especially since he is very into cleanliness and takes a shower at least twice a day! Those mikvahs can be quite smelly...

Miriam- yeah, it works as long is stuff doesn't fall off the shallow ledge. I was using that basket thing and it had a big crack in it and my new flat ware came pooring out. I managed to grab almost all of it except a fork. I used a crutch to get it out.

(on a separate note, I cave the crutch to the thrift store and you would not believe how many they had. But if you break a leg, who has time to go to the thrift store?)

The night before her wedding, the kallah went to the mikveh. Unfortunately for her it was crowded and there were some problems with the intercoms that call the mikveh lady/balanit. After waiting too long and with no response, she stuck her head out the door to see if she could ask the balanit to come in and check her. To her utter embarrassment, her soon to be mother-in-law was sticking her head of her room also looking to call the balanit. They saw each other for a second and quickly popped themselves back in their rooms.
