I have an existing daughter called Nechama Dina and we call her just Dina.
Now, a situation has come up where I’d like to name my baby after a family member who was named Adina.
Does anyone have any ideas for me as to how to make it work?
(I do not want to start calling my older daughter Nechama)

Is that name still given nowadays?
If I name her Adina Aidel and call her aidel, then she won’t ever have a choice to use the more modern name if she hates the Yiddish, because of her sister…
Otherwise I do like the name

Then Adina Tova or some other name, and only call her by the second name.

But I really want this family members name to be used, not just forgotten.
Would it be weird to call her the full name adina tova?

I don't think it's ok to have a Dina and an Adina (and you actually call them that). But maybe others may disagree.

You can nickname Adina- Adi (pronounced like Adina without the na) I’ve definitely heard that.

I would never have two children called by such similar names… but that’s just me. Although I think they’re both beautiful names.

Yes very weird, in my opinion. I would also worry that this could cause resentment from your older daughter either towards you or the baby especially if people end up dropping the second name which happens often.

You can definitely name it if you call her two names, like Adina Tova. then it doesn't sound similar anymore.

And Aidel is really not used in the US. (non-chassidish)

Personally I don't think it's a problem. They sound alike but are totally different names that mean completely different things. Although it might cause confusion when you're calling one the other might think you said their name.

I don't think you should change your older daughter's name or what you call her just to accommodate this new name.

I'd use a middle name with Adina and call her by both names.

Or not use the name at all.
