we’re renovating and pretty much rebuilding the interior of our apartment. right now in the plan my main hallway is supposed to be 120 cm (around 47.5 inches). it’s a nice generous size.

I am wondering if it should be less… the bedrooms/bathrooms are all small. I can take 10 cm off the hallway and make “girl bedroom 11 and 3” a little bit bigger. (so then hallway would be around 43.3 inches.) would you?

specifically, right now the closet protrudes past the desk. if the room would be a little deeper, I could get a clean line there.

is the trade off worth it? or will we enjoy a wider hallway more? wwyd?

I’m putting a picture but ignore the kitchen/front of the house—these things will be different.

I'll measure my hallway for you when I get home. We made it the narrowest possible, while still comfortable to walk through. Any smaller and we'd feel to closed in.

My contractor told me 3 feet is the narrowest you can go for a hallway. And they were totally big enough.

I'd prefer bigger bedrooms. No one hangs out in a hallway.

Not necessarily. My kids when they wake up play alot in the hallway. I have a book closet in the hallway. They sit down next to it and read.

thanks!

(although would they… if the hallway was wide enough? little kids with toy cars? or like instead of telling my daughter to step out the living room, I’d do her hair right there…?)

I love that closet. It's in between the kids bedrooms. Far enough from mine close enough to theirs.
