Hi everyone!

I can't afford the prices in the clothing stores that I would love to shop at TMI (for myself and baby), so it occurred to me that I should work on my sales shopping skills Wink
I’d really appreciate any tips or advice you can offer on the following:
1. When do stores (both Jewish and non-Jewish) typically run their sales? For example, before which holidays or during what times of the season?
2. If I’m looking to buy clothing for next summer, is now the best time to catch good deals?
3. When would be the best time to shop sale for the upcoming winter?

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Winter goes on sale Chanukah time then progressively gets more reduced until mid January when the spring line drops. After that you can still find deals on outlet sites and sale sections of websites but not in stores.
Spring clothes go on sale a bit before lag beomer until late July when the winter line drops.
Buy the most important and hardest to find clothes at 30 off.
Less important and more common at 50 off.
Go wild and treat yourself at 70 off.
An upside to this shopping is that you’re spreading out your spending and not racking up cc bills at otherwise very expensive times of the year. A downside is that you can’t always predict kids growth spurts.

I was hoping winter would go on sale earlier, like after sukkas TMI .. But I think you're right.

Well said.
I would also add, get acquainted with sites that have value like petite rack and other such store spin offs.
If you have internet access, try bog box stores for things like underwear, sweatshirts, leggings and other basics. (I dress in tailor look, super classy, but the basics are all from such places).
Most of all, Daven to hashem to find what you’re looking for at a good price. That always helps.

Winter does often go on sale by black Friday already. A good majority of junees' fall/winter stuff goes on 40-50% off on thanksgiving day already.

Thank you so much for your clear response! It's really helpful. Just wanted to clarify, does all of this also apply to non-Jewish stores?

I only shop at mainstream stores and I find Black Friday to have better sales than after Chrstmas/NY. Exampe: I buy my daughter hee ‘shabbos coat’ on Good Friday sales (I put what I want in my cart way before that and am ready to go!) H&M has periodic flash sales (like today from 12-8) 25% off store wide so if there’s something new I have my eye on I keep in my cart and buy during one of these flash sales. Zara has sales post winter holidays and again around July 4.

Great advice, thanks! Can I ask where you get leggings and sweatshirts from? I like the ribbed leggings from Lil Legs, wondering what be a cheaper alternative.

I get leggings from children’s place. I only get the black and I get them for around $4 each. There are always multiple coupons and things going on to get them for even cheaper.
Their fit is great and I buy between 6-8 so they do last a while without looking blah.

You can get leggings from primark
If you specifically want ribbed maybe try Ali or SHEIN
No point in spending on leggings. Number one rule to shopping wisely is not to spend on the basics

If you have time and patience, stores like Burlington, TjMaxx, Nordstrom Rack etc could have real good quality clothes for extremely cheap. I recently bought a $168 dollar dress at Nordstrom Rack for around $40 (fully tznius).

I find after July 4th to be good sales for non Jewish stores on summer stuff.

And probably around MLK day the winter stuff goes on sale?

And of course there are Labor Day and Memorial Day sales.

For summer sales, some stores will have a 20% memorial Day sale on selected stuff, but it'll be a one day sale, and shabbos clothes will usually go on 20 off sale after Shavuos , but the major sales come after camps have already started, like mid July the 50% offs start.

Does anyone know when Janie and Jack has the best sales?

What about Jacadi?

Janie and Jack has post winter holiday sales. Sign up for their emails and they’ll notify you when they are.

For little kid leggings I love target. They come in different colors and really hold up well. Don't look blah or worn out quickly. And if your little one rips it at the knee, cat and jack have a 1 year guarantee if it gets ruined through normal wear and tear. They do have a max per year that you can get a refund.

I love basics like that for so cheap!!
