No wine allowed but does it have to be beer? Grape juice?

We always use grape juice year round (same as wine halachically). If we have a child between around 6-9 where they're too young to understand aveilus but old enough to understand the bracha, they drink, otherwise my husband does. That's the basic halachic preference.

My husband researched this and you can still use grape juice. He said it's not super simple what qualifies for chamar medina nowadays.
