Hi I'd like to know on which oxygen level a child is being sedated on a breathing pipe?
Edit to add that I'm referring to a one year old
Also, is a breathing pipe and breathing tube the same? What about ventilator and respirator?

Nurse here:
A ventilator and respirator are the same thing
A breathing tube and a breathing pipe (never heard the pipe one) should be the same thing.
A child will need to be intubated based on clinical symptoms and other testing. there is not a specific number.

Agree. You're leaving out so much relevant info, OP, there is no way anyone can answer you. There are multiple factors in why someone would be sedated and intubated.

Thank you, I wasn't sure if I was told tube or pipe, that's why I wanted to know if it's the same, I guess it's called tube.
Does this make sense? Oxygen was low (not sure number) even when on bipap and they said they'll insert a breathing tube. A full team came and they started the process by sedating her. When she was asleep they told me that her oxygen regulated a bit since she's asleep and is calmer so they can keep her sedated on the bipap and keep her like this as long as her oxygen doesn't drop

RT here. It’s a combination of factors more than only oxygenation.
A vent and a respirator are the same thing.vent Is the professional term
An ET tube is the clinical word for a breathing tube.
We have a sort of mental flow sheet we follow before intubating a child. Idk what country you are in. In the case it’s the US you can PM with further questions

Thanks. They wanted to intubate while still in the ER. Now with the bipap and she's under sedation her baseline oxygen level is at around 88. It can sometimes jump up to 90 but mostly it fluctuates at 82 to 88. from time to time it can take a drop to as low as 68 but doesn't last long on those numbers.
In the US for the record

Refuah shelaimah! We’ve been at the hospital 5x for respitory reasons with our 2 yr old son. Just keep in mind that numbers will fluctuate a lot and it’s more about seeing patterns. Slow and steady wins the race. Oxygen can take a day to figure out or many. But your little princess determines that. I’m so sorry your daughter is sick!

Makes sense. When she's asleep, her body is more relaxed & works less hard to breath.
Refua sheleima!

Patients are put on ventilators when the oxygen levels drop below 88, but this also depends on the specific Patients & their breathing patterns.
