I’ve been severely underpaid in my job, and my coworkers often make comments to me about how little they make. I run payroll, and I see they are making more than me. I know it’s unprofessional to say anything, so I don’t point it out to them. I’m just cranky.

This I should do. I’m a bit nervous to ask for it because I don’t have much to tell her other than that I see I’m getting paid less than just about everyone else (who don’t have degrees and are working in much less skilled roles). It’s not like my core job changed since I signed my contract.

How long were you working there?
You should get yearly raises regardless of whether or not the job changed.

I have the same problem. I am the manager of the company, basically run their business, I work full time and in the busy seasons I work dawn to dusk and work my soul out.
I only make 52k - which is around 43k after tax.

I just got a raise of a few hundred dollars- which is almost nothing in our inflation era.
I’m really struggling financially.

But I feel like I can’t ask for a raise now because I’ve just gotten one!

I see positions like mine listed on recruiters agencies that offer six figure salaries and it hurts.
I tried getting another job but wasn’t successful yet Sad

I do love my job though, that I can do it mostly remote.

I do get a very slight yearly raise. But my crankiness isn’t helped because everyone is getting a raise and I still feel like I’m underpaid at the company. I know it doesn’t take away from me when others have more, but when they are treated differently it really sucks. (Think additional time off, reduced workloads, lower standards). I was told in no uncertain terms that there will not be available to me. I think my boss must be blind.

Thank you, I relate to this so much.

Have you tried searching for a new job? I hate it when people stay at a job they don't feel happy with.

Yes, I’ve been actively applying for 6 months, but my field is very saturated right now so it’s hard to get something. I am still applying.

Why are you nervous to ask? Are you afraid you'll feel worse if told no?

Yes. Plus, my boss always complains to me when people ask for a raise for no reason.

I’m personally afraid that they won’t feel comfortable to say no and will let me go instead

If you really manage their whole business there's no way they can let you go. And if they do let you go, then you can apply to the six-figure jobs you see listed.

You don't have no reason.
You have more credentials (I think you mentioned a master's?), more years at the company, more experience overall, work longer hours... All legitimate reasons you should be paid more.

You are being taken advantage of...
You can likely make similar at an entry level position
Maybe show your boss what other companies paying for the job as means of explanation?
