Looking for suggestions for a mesivta for my son who is finishing 9th grade.

He a solid, "clean" boy who wants to grow. We are looking for a smallish, warm place where the rabbeim are geshmak, motivating and encouraging. We are from NY but open to anywhere in the US as long as there is a dorm. Also, the yeshiva should be a "clean" place with good shmira in the dorm.
My son is the type that is very affected by his peers and with the rt encouragement and warmth IYH he can get far.
We are middle of the road yeshivish. black hat/jacket type of family.

TIA

What does "clean" in quotation marks mean?

I don't know details, but when my friend's son needed to go oot, he went to Roosevelt yeshiva in Monsey and was matzliach there.

Is it possible to ask his 9th grade Rebbe for recommendations? Ohr Naftali in New Windsor sounds like a great option, though I've heard it can be hard to transfer in if you didn't start there in 9th grade.

I think it will be really difficult to find out what’s actually going on in the dorms.
The only way I can think of is speaking directly to a boy you know and trust who is willing to be open with you.

It's an excellent Yeshiva with real 'shtarke' boys. I see them all the time.

I think Roosevelt is a bit too high level for him.

No, my son who found Roosevelt too intense was advised to switch to Ohr Naftali as a wholesome step down, but at that time they weren't taking transfers for his grade.
