My FIL is finishing shas and I want to show him how much we respect him and how much we appreciate how he leads his family in this derech of love and dedication to Torah. It’s a huge occasion and I really want to honor him. On the other hand, he is a big anav and doesn’t want to make a big deal. I saw someone on here once suggested a “dinner journal” of people saying Mazel tov and while I think that’s the cutest idea, I think FIL would be embarrassed. Any ideas of gifts/ways to show appreciation? He also wouldn’t want anything expensive as we are all on kollel budgets, he would just feel bad

I remember one of the times my father finished Shas, he came to us for Shabbos. I set up a beautiful surprise Shalosh Seudos and invited my local sisters and their families to come....it was beautiful.

Can you get a simple shtender of raw wood, have all family members inscribe something special to him, then varnish it.
It would be simple, meaningful and useful.

If he’s making a Siyum, you can sponsor it or part of it. Or make something special for it.

When my father finished shas all the kids got together and got him a gorgeous pictures with silver. I forgot the scene (and they live in another country so I don't see it often)--I think it was a rebbe and talmid, with a fitting pasuk.
