A friend of mine put me down as a reference on her resume for a job in the child care field.
Because there are children involved, I feel obligated to give honest answers.
(Not very complimentary)
Is that lashon hora?

I would tell her that you appreciate her thinking of you, but at this time you aren’t able to be a reference (life too hectic, can’t be busy with calls etc)

AFAIK, if it is for someone else’s protection, you can give warning. The listener is obligated to take precautions but not actually believe the report. I’d she’s a danger to children and you have the opportunity to prevent problems, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell.
