One of the women (the elfin one) in the Kahlua road trip thread suggested I give this its own thread, so that's what I'm doing. I've made this many times since I saw it in the magazine in 1990, and it's really good. For guests, I've either served with whipped cream or ice cream, either chocolate, coffee or vanilla.
It's not a traditional bread pudding (pieces of bread surrounded in a custard) but is more pudding-like, very light, and the bread kind of disappears, so it's softer than a regular bread pudding. Really nice, I think.

Since I have never heard of a bread pudding as a dessert I wonder what bracha one makes on it?
