make sure it stays dry!!!
if you have the ones with the valves make sure you keep them seperate when not in use.

it's hard to keep them dry and seperate when the sippy cup is always in use. I also found that once the mold starts to grow it grows fast and is impossible to remove completely so it just keeps coming back and stays in the crevices. Yuck!

I say, they are good for 3 months, then toss them. you can get a cheap enough one to make it worth it.. there is a nubby brand cup that is easy to clean though, but still has to go after a while.

I hate that too. So I now buy the first years throw away ones. You can wash it a bunch of times but then throw them away when they get yucky. They are so much cheaper too. On top of my boys loosing them, the cleaning annoyed me too much.

thanks for the tips. I guess I'll have to figure out how to convince my toddler to like different style sippy cups since she's pretty attached to the gerber one. Wink

Soaking in bleach solution every now & then kills mold and removes stains.

Throw them out as soon as they show signs of mold.

Clean all the pieces after each use with a bottlebrush and a little detergent.

Just to update. The bleach does a good job. I feel funny throwing out such expensive cups every few months and I don't have dishwasher (although I wish I did.) The weird thing is that the only thing I put in the sippy is water What mold just likes to grow anywhere wet I guess.

I really like the disposable ones. My DD likes to shove them under the sofa, in the back of the closet, etc. By the time I find them, there is no saving them.

now I am very spoiled - we moved into a house previously owned by a frum family and I have a milchig dishwasher! that's the best. b4 that, every once in a while I'd boil them in a pot for a few seconds and that really worked well.

There are counter-top bottle electric sanitizers on the market. We bought one for someone who gave birth to twins, bh. It has exchangable racks: bottles or cups and pacifiers etc.

I'm putting the brand name. If someone wants to delete, do so. It's put out by Safety First (Target, Toys R Us..)
