Well, the popcorn emoji is often used to signal that someone is anticipating drama or conflict in a conversation. It's like saying, 'Let's grab some popcorn and watch the show!' I just find it a bit obnoxious, but hey, to each their own! 😄

I interpret it as more than just a controversial topic.

I interpret it as being a topic that has been come up many times and so the OP must know that it is going to end up being a feces show because historically the thread devolves into one.

And also it generally is pointless.

I also thought it would be a warning not to let little tykes have popcorn and wondered why it was under entertainment.
