I just read the first. Do most hold that one may nott endanger himslef to save another? The three exceptions given do NOT include:
1. To save one's own children or
2. To save a group of people who are not prominent community leaders.
So a father with a pistol should not leave the mamad to try to.shoot terrorists who will try to break in and kill his children?
And a soldier should not intervene and put his life at risk, in a case where the terrorist was only threatening one other person, or a small group containing no major community leaders?
It seems like this halacha would make it nearly impossible for its followers to serve as police, soldiers, firemen, etc

So in the shiur I posted above, the Rav addresses that on two levels - halachot which determine the greatest pikuach nefesh, and the halachot which come into play when you're talking about the scale of a government, especially a government at war. Listen to the shiur, and then let's discuss

TBH: the Rav seemed to be more into creating a "chap," than being clear. I didn't notice a chiddush that he brought in relative to the other shiur posted above, except for his inclusion of the analysis of the Athenian wise men's parallel. It's a novel interpretation for me, though it's not strictly speaking within the discussion of halacha.
