I would love to crochet an animal but have never crocheted before. Is it hard to learn? Or am I being too ambitious and animals are something for well experienced crocheters?

I learnt how to crochet by watching you tube videos.
I learnt pretty quickly, and once you get the techniques and basic stitches you can pretty much do anything!

I don’t have access to you tube right now, however I don’t think it was anything specific.
Search crochet for absolute beginners, and see who speaks to you the most, find someone you like and follow their specific videos.
I remember liking some more than others.
You can order on Amazon a very cheap yarn, and hook just to get the feel and practice! Once you get it, the sky is the limit of what you can make. And it’s relaxing and fun!
