I was on the phone with pest control, explaining that we had centipedes and silverfish. DD (5 yrs) turned to older sister and asked, "Mimi, do you know what the silver fish are?"
Mimi said, "No, what?"

and very authoritatively 5 yr explained, "Those are the ones we have on Shabbos."

silverfish are those long crawly creatures with a gazillion arms and legs that appear and disappear on you very quickly; they usually come around springtime and are a nightmare in the home!

Yup, I got 'em too. every few days, I walk into a room, and boom, it's suddenly in front of me, they are so yucky, and I freak out when I see one.

what's the diff. between centipede and silverfish, or is silverfish just a fancy name for centipede?

So how are they different than centipedes? I thought they were just a type of centipede or millipede or whatever.
I think they're pretty cool! But I wouldn't serve them on Shabbos! LOL

Yucky and scary? The only truly yucky and scary creation of Hashem are cockroaches. Centipedes and silverfish and spiders and ants and moths and fruit flies and beetles are just FASCINATING!

I'm with gamzu. Just because I don't want the bugs in my house doesn't mean they aren't facinating. If my kids wouldn't run to touch them or -uuggghh- pick them up, I'd stop a moment to watch them before I'd kill them (or throw them out of the house) . Hashem made such interesting creations!
