So, I'm finally ready to admit that don't have room in my apartment for ds's upsherin, even if it is only family and come and go... So, any ideas where I can have it? I'd prefer somewhere free or cheap and I'd like to bring my own food and activity...

Can you do it in a park or your shul or ask a friend with a bigger place or basement.

I would do it in a park but what if it rains? no backup? My husband davens in a yeshiva and the shuls around here charge a lot. Unless someone knows of a shul or school in brooklyn that charges less??
Also, I unfortunetly can't think of anyone whose place I can use...

If it isn't during school hours, maybe a school (or preschool) will let you rent the space cheaply, especially if you plan on sending DS there eventually (or have other kids there already)

And your apartment or a rented hall is exciting how?

Sorry, I don't live near you so I can't make any specific recommendations at all. But what do your friends and neighbors with small apartments do? Maybe ask around what others have done. Otherwise I think just go with the park. Hopefully you will get nice weather.

We have a minhag that the upsherin boy doesn't see any non jews or bad people the day of his upsherin. That is why we wrap him in a talis when he goes to cheder to give out pekelach and then we bring him back home.

For one of my ds upsherin, I "invited" everyone and told them that, it's perfectly fine if they don't come. It was only family and they understood perfectly. They didn't really want to come anyway. They were all in NJ and I was in NY.
