We're about to put down a new wood floor, and I hear that it should be about my taste and not what's popular, but all I know is I want white oak with a light stain-other than that I'm clueless! I would appreciate any ideas! (A light paint color to go with it would be great also!)

That is the color. The floor is white oak.

I have a light oak floor and I am very happy with it. Mine is pretty much a natural finish - light but not with any kind of treatment - I.e. not gray; not whitewashed. I didn't want my floor to make a statement as I have beautiful area rugs so the floors are more of a background.
It brightens up the room.
It is easier maintenance than a darker color floor because dust isn't as apparent nor are the inevitable boobbos.
