Artscroll's relatively new english translation with commentary (clearly divided on the page so you know what is what) is just fine. I have been enjoying it much more than the 'old school' translation from Feldheim.

I found it's helpful to learn this with a partner, to bring in stories and examples and be mechazek each other.

There are a number of other books in English today that use Shaar Habitachon as their foundation in working through bitachon- eg :You, Revealed by Naftali Horowitz (a standout for me).

People enjoy Rabbi Shais Taub's classes on this- available on youtube, - note that he is lubavitch and brings a very lubavitch (and somewhat humorous) perspective to the material.
