I was very successful with Chaim medical for specialists. Various different kinds. They're not based in NJ but maybe they can guide you.

Dr George in Mount Sinai is a top doctor for crohns colitis. Many pay out of pocket for him. Chaim medical can help you get a reduced rate.

Dr George is not a surgeon. He is a gastroenterologist. Based on my personal experience if you are looking for a gastro I would use the group he is part of, but I highly recommend using Dr Kornbluth or Legnani over George.

In regard to a surgeon, I have used Dr. Chessin twice and was very happy with his work.

I second Dr. Legnani. He is not a surgeon but he would be able to direct you.

Dr. Kiran, he operates in Columbia Presbyterian did an excellent job on my husband's surgery. In general, in my experience from more than one family member, your GI is not necessarily the best person to ask to refer you to a surgeon. (Dr. Kornbluth who was referenced above recommended some to a relative of mine who she was told by many referral organizations is horrible).
When looking into surgeons for my husband's surgery, I found that the best method was to call several referral places and see whose name came up by many or all of them. Shuki Berman, Echo, Yoely Drummer....
