so ... I hear that even those who don't ... during aseres yemai teshuva they do ... why would that be ... isn't it like pretending ... how can this help if only for 10 days ... if you don't eat colov yisroel the rest of the year ?!?!?!

It's also brought down in the Gemara (or somewhere equally holy ) We all try our hardest during this time since there is the concept of being judged like Yishmael as "Ba'asher hu sham" as he was acting then.
