A clean house is nice, but it's not worth mental or physical exhaustion.
When you get to shamayim, they aren't going to ask you if you kept a clean house. So, if its a little messy, don't worry. It's not worth driving yourself crazy over.

it's worse ... I've been trying for years ... because so much has been on my plate - decided to ignor it all ... except the kitchen ... cause that's all I can do ... but even that ... and these past 2 weeks were torture with my dd and the kitchen is messy too now ... and I actually am a neat freak and I hate the mess ... I want it clean for the new year ... I need sanity and cannot find it but under a tree in my hammock ignoring the world ...

Just let it go.... relax.... it's not worth your sanity.

Green,
You have older kids... can they help out somewhat?
(And, if you have to go through a lot of trouble and anguish to get them to help out, then the answer is no -- remember the goal is to make things easier on you, not harder.)
If not, then just let it go. Do as much as you can, but learn to accept your limitations. There are times that my house is very messy. Just do the best you can -- no one can ask any more.

the only one that helps is my little dd ... and I just wanted it clean tonight ... at least the kitchen ... but ... that's part of why I let it all go to begin with ... I got sick of doing it alone ... and just fighting with them to help ...
and now I just did a good job of embarrassing myself

You didn't embarrass yourself. We all have our up and down times. Don't worry about it. Again, just do the best you can. No one can or should ask for any more.

Greenie, I can so identify with you because since the baby was born, I just don't seem to have the energy to clean...it's been such a struggle just to do keep things semi-organized and keep up with laundry and cooking...I feel like I have no energy left for things like mopping the floors and scrubbing the bathtub. And then when I finally do get that burst of energy, the baby always seems to want my attention And I'm also a neat freak and a perfectionist who likes everything to be just so...
I'm learning to be a bit more relaxed about it, trying not to let it get to me and to remember what my priorities are... I need to be relaxed for my family...
Just do the best you can, things don't have to be perfect... (I'm talking to myself too, you know )

I like to talk on the phone when I do housework - especially washing the floor - it distracts me so I don't realize that I'm doing something boring...and I have a nice surprise when I get off the phone and realize things are clean! If no one's available to schmooze (that's happened to me on many a Thursday night!) maybe a shiur on tape....or put on some music and have Karaoke in the Kitchen night...

see I don't function that way ... I need quiet ... with nobody in my way ... and no distractions ... if I pick up the phone ... chances are I will sit down ... so ... this morning I got some more done ... and I feel more hopeful ... but that is only for my kitchen ... and not the rest of my nightmare - which must wait for another time ... now to sweep and wash the floor ...
