Mattel is coming out with new Barbies with different body shapes: Petite Barbie, Tall Barbie, and Curvy Barbie. What do y'all think?

I think its a great idea. Not everyone looks the same so why should dolls all look the same?

Taken on its own, it seems kind of silly.

But body-image messages are cumulative, so while a single change like a curvy Barbie doesn't make a difference, it all adds up -- in a good way.

Personally, I'm holding out for the middle-aged Barbie with six kids and a full-time job.

A Huffington post article in 2011 said, "If Barbie were an actual woman, she would be 5'9" tall, have a 39" bust, an 18" waist, 33" hips and a size 3 shoe."

Curvy Barbie is definitely an improvement.

This.

It's also another way for them to make more money selling different kinds of dolls. Fans will just have to have every doll they make. Wink

I'm a size zero and my body most resembles the "curvy" Barbie than the old one. Definitely more realistic.

I have pretty major body image issues, but curvy barbie looks fat to me. oy yoy yoy, what these messages did to me over time....[especially from my family members who actually look like the original barbie. ]
