I'm looking for a sleepaway camp for my DD, Bais Yaakov hashkafos with an out-of-town flavor/not very New York-y (ie. not too much emphasis among the girls on brand name clothing etc). Please give your suggestions and tell about your experiences. Thanks!

I'd love to hear them too! Sorry, baltomom, but this is also my first time and I have no idea where to start either. I hope you don't mind me "eavesdropping".
If this helps, my daughter, who will be 13, says Maarava is a good one (based on her friend's sister's experience), but I'd like to know about a couple other options in case that one doesn't work out.

I also heard wonderful things about Maarava, but unfortunately won't work out for this DD this year.... Any other camps like it out there?
BTW, online application/registration began for Maarava yesterday. www.aicamps.com

My DD's went to Camp Bais Yaakov. Though most girls are from the NY area, they have girls from all over - as far away as California. My DD says no one cares about designers there.

Besides Maarava, Agudah Midwest and Marom. I think Marom is for 9th gr. and up but I might be wrong.

Sviva in woodbourne. It's only a second half camp though. It's a boys camp first half.
People like Chaviva is elenville but it's a very small camp and it's impossible to get new camper in.

I went to Camp Bais Yaakov for many years. I loved it. It has a lot of girls from tristate area but a nice amount from out of town as well and the general clientele couldn't care less about brand names. It's warm, chilled atmosphere and so fun!
