Hi.
I am sooo bad at coming up with ideas for dinner... quick things, but not careless type meals. Can you please help me come up with ideas? I am pregnant and feeling yucky, plus my husband works nights so I have to get dinner ready in the morning, which isnt the worst thing anyway....
Thanks

Soups are very easy to make, I generally alternate between pea soup, vegetable soup, and creamed corn soup. All these soups require very little time and effort.

Make a big pot of soup, and then you can serve it most of the week.

Easy main dishes:
tacos (just brown the meat and add spices)
bean burritos (just put beans and cheese in a tortilla and pop into the microwave)
chicken sandwiches
wraps (cut up chicken, put inside a tortilla with salad and avocado)
Spinach and portabella mushroom wraps
(slice mushrooms and place in microwave for 1 1/2 minutes, add chopped frozen spinach and microwave until completely hot. Spice with garlic salt and pepper and place mixture in tortilla and sprinkle cheese on top. Put back in the microwave
for another minute)

Easy but nice dinner is salmon steak: pour soy sauce + garlic powder then broil in disposable aluminum pan. Side dish could be frozen veggies - my kids & I like broccolli. Fresh bread, then chocolate pudding for dessert.

During the winter months, I love making stews, chilis, and soups in my crockpot. I put everything together in the morning and by dinnertime it's finished. The house smells so yummy all day!

Some quick, easy dinners my kids also love:
"breakfast for dinner": scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, waffles
grilled cheese sandwiches with a salad
hummus on pita
deli sandwiches
tuna fish, canned corn and salad (a great meal when I don't feel like cooking!)
macaroni and cheese

I don't give the kids things like hotdogs or fishsticks, so these are some of my "quick" dinner ideas!

if you like it, great! . I can barely manage to put together a proper protein/veggie/starch dinner, never mind dessert!

so think of me next time you dig into your chocolate pudding! LOL

I know it sounds funny, and maybe that's what I get for living out of town where it's not so simple to get meat, but I find tofu is a very fast dinner option. I make a few very fast stir fry type dinners with it. It soaks up any sauce\marinade. We've done it with a barbecue type of sauce, pesto, soy\sesame, and even did popcorn tofu and cauliflower, marinaded them both in seasoning and cooked it all together. My husband the meat eater even suggests tofu for dinner! All of these I can make with the baby in the highchair chomping on cheerios. That qualifies them as fast in my book.
And ditto on the soup\stew\chili.

I have recently discovered that if I make dinner earlier in the day, I make a better meal. My kids usually nap in the early afternoon, so I start dinner then. I love making soups and they need atleast 2-3 hours to cook.

Newly married over here but pretty simple suppers for me include:

Stuffed shells
Pepper Steak
Wraps (tuna, avacado, chicken)
Lasagna (w.o cooking the lasagna noodles first! it really works.)
Chicken Salad
Hamburgers/Hot Dogs
Soups
Spaghetti & Meatballs

Anything from 'Short on Time'- add an extra 5-7 minutes to her timing- shes a bit off for those of us who dont super speed when we cook Smile

If you need any of the above recipes I have them on the computer and would not mind posting them.

Good Luck!

I always use the lasagna recipe that's on the back of the lasagna box. Personally, I don't put lasagna in the quick and easy category!

In Israel its even easier. Send a kid to a felafel stand to buy the balls at the last minute when table is set, salad made, pickles cut, techina mixed and pita is cut. they sell them really cheap and they arrive hot. they of course can be reheated in the micro if someone eats later.

Quick eats by us:
Hot dogs or kebabs on bun with cut veg or instant couscous or petitim.
Scrabbled egg and home fry the easy way. Put the potatos in the micro w/butter. Peel, lice or cube into the frying pan w/onion, oil, paprika, salt and black pepper until they are browned a little. Add checked beaten eggs and fry until the eggs are as you like them.
Toasted cheesers in the hand toaster.
Eggs in the hand toaster. One in each triangle = 4 eggs in less than 1 minute. Great for little kids.

DH is home, see yins later.
