I looked over the site for any information about this, but wasn't able to find anything- can anyone tell me how to become certified as a P-3 provider and how to get jobs in this area? Also, can anyone tell me how much p-3s make? I'm in NYC- is it different in other states? Thanks so much!

you have to have a masters in special education in the age group that you want to work with.

It's considered self-employment so you pay double ss tax.

working with one child - approx $40 an hour
as you work with more children up to five in an hour the price as a whole (although not per child) increases slowly. Five - approx - $105.

All of this is before taxes.

All I need is a Masters? I'm about to get that- do I need a special license or something as a P-3? I've applied for NYS certification in gen and special ed and I'm waiting for it to come through. Do I get jobs through the city? I don't see too many ads for them...

AFAIK, you need your certification number and then you have to find the kids. You can go to the BY schools and ask if they have kids that are qualified for it. You need their numbers as well. There is some paperwork to fill out. Call up the Board of Ed.

also depends what you are being certified in. generally, I THINK (not for sure!) most p3's fall within grades 1-6 and there are some high school level jobs also. but not as much for early childhood (birth-2nd grade).

call project learn at agudah they do a shiddich service and help you find kids that have p3. the number is 212 797 9000 ext. 325. you can also look in your local classifed ads. the boe gives the list out to all children that get p3 and you will be getting 100's of calls from far places..... you might be able to start already before you get your license. ask project learn they will help you. good luck.

If you're looking to work in Brooklyn you could call Little Kinder at 718 951 1589 and ask them for their fax number so that you could fax your resume. They provide P3 providers to some schools in Brooklyn.
