I have a few friends with fancy degrees. One is much older than me and I'm just most comfortable calling her "Dr. First-Name".
She doesn't mind, although she told me lately that no one else does it, and that Love (to her) is more important than Respect.
Gosh, I thought, I certainly hope I am showing her both!
At any rate, would you like to discuss this?

I think once you have love for someone, respect automatically follows, at least it certainly should!
But you can certainly respect someone but not necessarily love them.

Dh finds "Dr. So and So" to be very formal. All his friends call him by his first name. It's his father who'll insist on calling him "doctor" - he finds it pretentious.
When he first started practicing, he wanted to just tell patients to call him by his first name. I told him they didn't need another friend - they were there to see a DOCTOR.
