My great great great grandfather was buried there. My grandmother looked for the stone and there was nothing, the Arabs "had fun" with the stones in this area, she learned. Not sure what kind of untermensch does that, really.

Are you saying it's not dangerous to go there? I was under the impression it was only safe to go there with large groups of people.

My sister lives across the street and they regularly walk around there. Lately, there have been some stoning incidents but it's been totally open and passable for years and years and years. Please, be very careful when making statements about Israel and only write things you are sure about, not things you have impressions about from afar.

People generally do not go alone. Ger chassidim have a van going every morning, I think at 8:45, from Yerushalayim in front of their Bais Medrash to Har Hazeisim.

Here are some more gedolim on Har Hamenuchos:

Rav Meir Shapiro zt"l, the initiator or Daf Yomi

Stropkever Rebbe zt"l

Pinsker Rebbe zt"l

Pitzburger Rebbe zt"l

Rav Akiva Sofer zt"l

Tamiri, it's a known fact and has been written up many a time in the papers that Har HaZeisim is not a safe place to go anymore. Unfortunately. If you know differently, you should really let the media know, because everyone that I know is afraid to go there. Even my sabra afraid of nothing cousins tell me not to go there anymore without an armed guard or two. I have seen pictures of vandalized graves and read interviews with people who were attacked on their way to/from Har HaZeisim or while they were there. I might not live across the street from there, but I know what's going on.

(There are people living in the heart of Chevron, but I still don't think it's a safe place to go. Especially since I don't walk around with a machine gun like the people living there - and in Maalei Zeitim.)

My friend was there today (they were a group of 3 women).
Other than the fact that is absolutely huge and not easy to find where you are going, she had no unsafe incidents, infact a worker (a male) was around and helped her find the kever of her child (lo aleynu) and helped her say the tefillot that were appropriate.

My husband's grandparents are buried on Har haZeitim. We don't go because, well, why would we (occasionally he'll go on a yahrzeit, but I haven't been in years)? But I wouldn't say it's unsafe.

As for Har haMenuchot, Reb Shlomo Carlebach is also buried there. (And my FIL, up the "street" from the Chida.)

That's right - I live in Yerushalayim but I've only been here since I got married a year and a half ago. I had wanted to go once to Har Hazeisim and was told by people who live here for 20 years or longer that I should not go on a regular day without an armored car or something.
I did pass by once on the way to the Kosel and all the busses were going there first because it was I think the Ohr Hachaim's yahrzeit and Har Hazeisim was full of people. I was with my husband though and he's a Cohen, so we got off the bus on the street facing Har Hazeisim and said Tehillim over there.
