What do you give for a Bar Mitzvah Gift if you are only invited for dessert?

I wouldn't give, but assuming they are making a kiddush would send something over for that.

Some people were invited to our son's bar mitzvah kiddush only, but not the seuda, and they gave gifts. We totally didn't expect any from them.

It would depend on why. I was invited to a Bar Mitzvah this year and the mother was avilus, so only close family was invited to the seuda and other people to the kiddush.
Also there have been times I know the family is not in a financial position to make a big seuda, and I give a gift. I figure those boys dafka need it more since their parents can't afford to give as much.
If the whole neighborhood is invited to the kiddush, sometimes I'm asked to go in on a joint gift for not much money, and sometimes I don't give if I really don't know the family and they are just having an "open" kiddush.
