Just curious-
I have a lady that cleans for me for about 4 hours a week ($100) and babysits for my twins for 4 hours a week also ($15 an hour). She is really wonderful and we are very happy with her work. She has also done some extra babysitting for me from time to time for simchas and the like.
For x-mas I was going to give her a gift card of something in the $50ish range, but because she couldnt come to babysit this past week because of the snow (her kids were out of schools and she couldnt find a sitter for them), I decided instead to pay her usual weekly rate ($160).
When she saw the amount of my check she was very surprised (in a good way), but I told her the extra (because she didnt babysit) was my x-mas gift to her.
My question is: did I do right by her? I am so bad with this whole x-mas gift for workers thing....

I don't know the halacha. I have a cleaning lady that comes 3-4 hours a week and gave her a little gift saying for the holidays.

I too say it's for the "holidays". If I remember, I try to give it on Chanukah. Sometimes I forget though and give it to her after Chanukah.

I'm not sure yet what (cash/gift or combination of both) I'm giving my cleaning help, but my DH tells me not to say "for xmas" as we don't celebrate their holidays in any way. He said better I should give it after xmas, before new year and say its the new year and holiday gift/cash.

in many places, a weeks pay is the usual for full time help. In the past when we've had a ft sitter, we gave her paid vacation days for her holidays, as that is what we couls afford.

If it was done here to give, I would give holidays or end of year gift, NOT Xmas.

I bought my cleaninglady a necklace ($20 range) and wrapped it and gave it to her on chanuka. I think a weeks pay is really, really generous!
