Timeout sorry but your sentence makes me think that you're very sheltered. Confused
Do you know Satmar people?? Well I do, and the funniest thing is that it is ka''h such a gigantic sect that it ranges from ultra sheltered to very open-minded people. You can't just put them in one category and label them as having a harder time than Litvishe. I for instance envy my Satmar cousins (kinas Sofrim that it LOL). They dress and look as pretty or even more than many other frum communitites but in such a tznius way. Somehow they know how to dress with fashion and class and yet according to tznius. They wear beautiful sheitels, not as long as other communities maybe but just as pretty. I don't know if they shave their heads or not and am not interested. They are so openminded yet fairly sheltered. Fashionable yet tzniusdik, I always tell them to teach me how they can put it all together. I am just amazed at the way some of the women here have no problem speaking so negatively about the Satmar people and especially when they are far from the truth. I mean ...... Braids??? Obviously some of you speak a lot while knowing little.
I am not posting as amother as I think I'm not the only proud person of my Satmar RElatives so It's not personal. I just can't believe that people who call themselves openminded can post things that I would only believe would come from ultra closeminded people.
OK I'll leave space for someone else..........

Why do people have such skewed ideas about what Satmar people do/look like? I suggest that before people state any "fact" about Satmar or any Chassidus, they first verify them and make sure they're facts. If the Satmar community was such a bunch of freaks do you think they would be 15-20,000 strong? (or more, I don't know the latest statistics)

As a litvish I can only say that I disagree that Satmar way of life is harder?
I also have Satmar family like blossom and many freinds;
the women have much easier time (in my opinion)
by us the women are much more expected of. when having babies for example we don't get all the help they do, we have to go to the baby's bris and in general our husbands are constantly told to learn and learn and which is beautiful of course but so much more falls on the women. working taking care of the kids the house etc. My Very close cousin who married satmar has a husband who was also taught to learn but also taught to that he has to help around the house and with the kids. She also works he also learns but they share the responsibilities of the house and kids the same. I'm not saying that is the case in general but many litvishe women say the same things like me.

I am a SATMAR girl who was treated like a princess at my parents home and now like a queen in my own home. B"H I am a very typical picture of how Satmar women are treated. I am sure and hope others treat their women and girls like our husbands and fathers do. the Satmar people of the Jewish nation? Please tell me. If there's anything I can help you with or explain to you I will. I am sure you don't really mean what you say as their must be a reason for you to talk this way. Please tell me I'm all ears to hear your reason.

A few months ago, during a severe storm, my son's dorm at the Lubavitcher Yeshiva was rendered unfit for use on a Friday night due to a downed power line. A neighboring Satmar family took in the entire qroup of sopping wet bochrim and made a huge farbrangin for them in the middle of the night and took their own mattresses off their beds to make the bochrim comfortable. This family put out pastries and soda and the bochrim danced with the host. The yeshiva tried to send a gift but the host simply made another farbrangin for the boys. Some of the boys still visit on Friday nights.

I just want to make it clear that whatever is said here negatively Actually their comments and tone speak for themselves and that's why their contents should not be taken seriously. And about Satmar. I happen to know So many of them since I have some Satmar family and friends and I work on projects within their community. I just have one thing to say "I am proud with you my Satmar brothers and sisters."

I dont know much about satmar, and I'm not going to generalize, but I was once on the subway with a satmar couple that had a few kids.

the woman was holding a camera and about to take pictures of the kids. the man grabbed the camera from her hand and said, "ich ken besser" (I can do it better). um, hello??!

so you dont know any satmar people so how do you know that this couple was satmar. And I don't get why such a story reflects on a certain chassidus. To me it just reflects the IQ or common sense of a person.

What is it with Lubavitch and Satmar? It seems to me that they are at each others throats? Now, how's that for a generalization! Wink LOL
But seriously, why is everyone "picking" on satmar? what about the zillions of other chassiduses, like belz, gur, bobov, amshinov, stolin, etc etc etc.

I happen to love meeting people from all walks of life, we all have problems within our communities, nothing is unique and nothing is new. I think we have a lot to gain from each other if we can be open to it and love each other. We are all brothers and sisters!

I am the amother who wrote earlier that maybe some people need more time dating. I just want to say- G-d forbid that I would disrespect a valid and beautiful derech. I am so sorry if it came across that way. That was not my point at all- I was just pointing out something about he dating- I was not trying to bash the whole way of life G-d forbid. I am sorry that my comments may have led to others going that direction. I did have a satmar friend who was a wonderful open minded frum person- and have met others who were also just wonderful people. Perhaps as a type of atonement (for maybe getting some people riled up), can I suggest that we talk about what we can learn from them- it seems like there is a lot. First of all the tznius, second, the research- I'm all for it! Maybe we can help some people with dating by taking some of the things they use. (I still think people should be allowed more time if they need it- sorry! Smile ) From my impression also, it seems like in those communities there are so many chesed organizations ... maybe you guys can tell us more that we can learn from. Instead of locking the thread- perhaps we can use this opportunity to clear up some misconceptions, and learn from each other.
