Your son's story completely opened my eyes. We'll be doing all these tests (not sure how DS will do that capsule endoscopy as he doesn't swallow pills, oy!). Just need to find a Dr who's knowledgeable and will be willing to get to the bottom of it!

The pill is very large so if he doesn’t swallow pills it’s not going to be an option. The alternative would an MRI, in my experience that’s actually the more common choice so I wouldn’t worry about the swallowing but either one is really getting ahead of yourself they usually start with the colonoscopy.
I’m so sorry for everything you and your ds are dealing with. It’s making me very appreciative for our straightforward diagnosis as frustrating and life altering as they may be.

These two women are integrative nutritionists?
Here's what I don't get - why can't regular Dr do the same tests as these integrative ones?? If a lab does it, it's available
They are specialty functional labs and aren't "fda approved"

They're not the same tests.

Wow, never heard about an MRI as an alternative

They can put the capsule down while the child is under anesthesia (during the scope). My child had an MRE done prior to the scope to ensure that there were no strictures; normally, they'd have you swallow a placebo pill and make sure it passes through before swallowing the actual (camera) capsule. The MRE won't pick up if there are ulcers, it's to ensure patency so that won't get stuck. It's unlikely that a doctor will order this test unless there is a reason to. So not before obtaining a regular colonoscopy.

Ok, our appointment is this week. Trying to put my thoughts all together.
- Last Endoscopy was done in December 2020 - should we have a new one?
- Colonoscopy - to rule out Crohn's
- SIBO breath test
- blood tests - for celiac. anything else specific I should ask for?
Food sensitivity can't be seen with blood tests, right?
- stool test - rule out H pylori, calprotectin level (points to infection or Crohn's/colitis)

If everything is clear after these, then
- capsule endoscopy (where they place the capsule inside, without the need to swallow) or MRI

My daughter has Crohn's. Her GI always does an endoscopy at the same time as a colonoscopy. Once they are under anesthesia, makes sense to do both together.

Hope all goes well and you get answers!

Very helpful to know they can be done at the same time, thanks! And amen!
