I just dyed mine today. It turned out really well. It is a tad darker and a touch redder (as opposed to orange) than I wanted, but it really looks great.

I did this on my older sheitel, that I never wear anymore. It does not have a skin part. The color had really faded; it used to be auburn. I used L'Oreal Excellence with creme conditioner. I had heard good things about L'Oreal and this was the line that had a color that I wanted (or at least was the closest to what I had in mind). I covered with foil the sheitel head so I wouldn't get the dye on it. Then I just followed the directions on the box. (I did wash it first because it had been sitting in the closet for so long, then dried it.) I think I put too much color in because I had to rinse for a REALLY long time before the water was clear. After rinsing the conditioner out, I used a blow dryer.

This was my first time using hair dye, ever!

I just died a fall I hardly wear. It was very red and when I bought it, it was brown. Somebody here said to buy Clairol so I did. I think it came out pretty well. I think I should of left the die in a bit longer, but it's definitely less red. I'm wondering if I should try dying my more expensive fall. It is brown but it now has these streasks of strawberry blond going through it which I want to cover up.

With an expensive wig you could cautiously try adding a 'glaze' of color, so the strawberry blonde streaks would be toned down, while the color of the entire wig would 'united' tinted with the same glaze. (Gosh, if I de-cluttered my art studio, I'd probably go back to watercolors, and get this wig-dyeing obession out of my system. Would that be a good thing, or a bad thing?...hint: Nobody buys dyed water-color paper but they do buy re-dyed wigs.)
