Don't get your knickers in a twist over it! (where does that phrase come from anyway?)

I hate the word panties. I call it underwear for both boys and girls.

I had a British room-mate when I was in seminary in Israel.
She was very sensitive to it when I referred to my pajama bottoms as "pajama pants."
Surprised)

"Underwear" for everyone! The only time I use the word "panties" is in the phrase, "It's time to put on your big-girl panties and . . . (go do something you don't want to do)."

I'm liking "knickers" and the various versions of "hoizen", though since my kids are teenagers, I guess they're on their own!

My underwear: brazilians (thongs) or "big ones" (normal underwear - which I rarely wear).

DH's: boxers (stretch-fitted boxers) or "curtains" (those square patterned, wide boxers that look more like shorts).

Underwear.

But that reminds me... My grandmother used to call them "bloomiss" when I was a kid. I assume it comes from "bloomers". Has anyone heard that?

Yeah, I use to call the boys underwear panties but people would yell at me for that.

My aunt did the same thing to her boys. We still make fun of them till this day.

For boys I'd probably say underpants and for girls panties.

In our house, it is undies for the little ones. My littlest, learning to talk called them "honeys" and I thought it was so cute, that now I call them honeys.
