I'm pretty health minded.
But food isn't only about feeding our bodies. Food also feeds our soul.
A lollipop with a hug from mommy for a struggling child is nurturing love.
I always make sure my kids have enough to choose at least 2 snacks that the like. Especially my oldest who's really growing now. She leaves at 8 and only gets home at 5. It's a long day. Even with breakfast and lunch in school.

They're are pretty healthful snacks to send along.
My son will choose an apple sauce pouch over chocolate chip cookies... or even a big red old fashioned apple. he'll also take some pretzels and a extra large rugala.

My other kid will take a homemade chocolate chip cookie made with olive or avocado oil and spelt flour. (Spelt cake and cookies taste better than wheat)
And linzer cookies. (Spelt and olive oil)
Or biscotti.
Homemade snacks are pretty healthy and yummy.

We also have a drawer full of store bought chips. (All without msg). But I encourage homemade snacks. But they still will choose snack bags every other day.
If it's not made into a struggle then they generally choose what mommy makes.

There was one kid who used to steal my sons snacks every day. He was 4. There was this 6 year old who'd put his hands in his pocket. And he'd take my sons. The kid would come with 2 tiny cookies every day for a 7 hour cheder day.
He'd eat it up on the bus before my son got on and then take my sons in the morning on the long ride to cheder. I would send along for that boy and taught my son UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should he allow ANYONE to put their hands in his pockets. After a few months the boy got bored of the haman tashan and dried fruits and I stopped sending 2 baggies.

At one point my kid started taking a whole bunch of cookies. She'd trade it for trinkets. I quickly put a stop to that though.

Another child left his on counter.

One rolled out of bed too late.

The bus came early and kid left his head at home

Ate 4 snacks on bus in am in addition to breakfast

Last year, the school said they are giving snack and children shouldn't bring. I didn't send. My child never asked. I hope he wasn't the outcast.

My kid asks for snacks. The school doesn't allow. I don't want to be responsible for another kids allergic reaction. I let her eat something before going onto the bus, but I dont let her take anything along. The school provides breakfast lunch and snacks. I don't think she stays hungry.

My son has taken plenty of snacks for kids who don't bring and would beg for his pretzels.

I make him take a snack even if he doesn't like what we have at home.

He ends up trading it in Cheder for something he likes.

Maybe the mother doesn't realize she's supposed to pack a snack. My friend's kids used to go to a school where no one would bring a snack because they had 2 snack times provided by the school. She moved to another city and switched schools and in this school the kids would bring snacks but her kids only told her this after months had passed! She was so embarrassed that she didn't know.

IDK these aren’t new kids and I find it hard to believe they wouldn’t say anything but who knows

Whenever my kids don't have snack it's either because they weren't interested in taking one or weren't ready on time for the bus and the consequence was not having time for snack.

One of my son's kept asking for a particular snack, and it turns out that he was being bullied and that was the snack the bully wanted him to get. My husband spoke to the Yeshiva and they sorted it out.

My son has five classmates who never bring any snack. The cheder does give snack at the end of the day, but the other boys all bring snack in addition to that.
Ds assumes they can’t afford it, and he shares his snack every day.
I don’t really know the background story but just want to make you aware.
If for whatever reason you decide to not send snack with your child while their classmates do, they are being viewed a certain way and are likely eating other kids snacks every day.

I generally send one snack a day,
It gets eaten on the bus there or the bus home.
If I send 2 snacks, or even five snacks, one will be eaten on the bus there, and the other will be saved for the bus home - or even saved to eat at home. Yep my kid is also the one who has no shame in asking people to share their snacks. Sorry about that....
Lots of reasons for this but bottom line is, don't assume.

And btw this is a kid-dependent thing, I have other kids who if I send a snack they eat it at snack time.

I send at least two usually three snacks. I decided early on not to make it a fight and they take what they think they need. Bh my kid are usually on the giving end of extra snacks and water bottles. (My daughter always takes an extra and almost daily someone asks)

I know parents including family members of mine who don't send. ( Kids are little though) and said that the school says they are providing. What they don't realize is that the school is very random and according to my children and friends the snack isn't always decent and they need more. I always tell my kids to take. I want to make sure they aren't hungry. They take healthy snacks as well as others (I don't allow MSG and other stuff)
