I miss Zisi Naimark. I realized she hasn’t contributed to Binah in a while.

She was also the editor of the Sukkos Calligraphy.

Dov Haller's alter ego is very much still alive and well. He is/was one of the editor in chiefs. I do still see him writing occasionally, but it seems that he has taken a back seat recently. I'm not writing who it was on purpose since I heard from someone in Mishpacha that it is not meant to be public knowledge and I don't want to post it on a public forum.
Ruti Kepler to the best of my knowledge is Israeli, and writes in Hebrew. I don't remember anything from her in the English Mishpacha ever. Some of her books that have been translated to English were serialized in the Hebrew magazine.
Gila Arnold just finished a serial. Haven't seen anything from Riva Pomerantz or Yael Mermelstein recently in the Mishpacha, I think one writes for the Ami and one has/had a serial recently in the Hamodia.
Mishpacha has just started a few new columns with new authors. Can't wait to see how they play out and I'm excited for a new generation of writers! Love Ariella though:) |
Ruti Kepler had at least 3 serials in the English mishpacha, she’s excellent. Pretty sure it’s common knowledge who dov haller is…

Did rachel lavon once write this awesome serial called something like smoke and mirrors? Can’t remember the exact name. I remember I loved it and was waiting for it to come out in a book and it never did. Unless I missed it. Wondering.
Dov haller book Sundays @10 is also on the top of my list with rappaport 55.

I was noticing this lately. It seems like most of their best writers are no longer there. It also seems like it slants more towards chassidim lately, does anyone else think so?

She wrote Normal Like Me (about the shaal ladies), All I Ask (Chassid finding his own derech), and Light Years Away (the girl without an ear).
Her writing is fabulous and deep. I appreciated re-reading them and seeing the strong themes and depth in a short time span, that I missed because chapters were spread apart as a serial.

House of Mirrors, it never became a book because it was only a mini serial. I keep thinking I'll compile all my short stories and novella's into a book one day but sigh....I'm lazy. And I appreicate all the nice pushing on this thread for more of my writing and the other Mishpacha writers! Love threads like this. Like others have mentioned, all the writers here are still around and writing, sometimes life gets busy so you see less of them, but I don't think anyone here has fully left the world of fiction. Sometimes we just need a push

You're right Taupe I also haven't seen Zisi Naimark in a while.
Also one of the stories in the Vista Succos supplement was more or less the same as one from a previous issue, it was about lace sheitels.

Binah are in financial trouble and owe their writers a lot of money so all the good writers have left.

Rachael Lavon is the creme de la creme! Her stories are entertaining, deep but not too much that you drown in the subtlety, and unique without being unrelatable. Rachael, if this is you, we are big fans and would love to see a book compilation of all your writings!
I really do wish that serials could get published more as real books. Dov Haller's second dance was out of this world and the wry/dry writing style is hysterical. Same with Esther Kurtz, the writing style is also phenomenal. I would love to see more variety in Mishpacha, so many talented authors!

Hi!
Such a shame that we can't search members' posts and stalk them.
Question: Why are the fiction supplements so often filled with downbeat stories of existential angst? Is that what Koheles and the season want of us?
