In the US it's the legal age to drink and gamble.

its in 5 mos. no plans yet. but its really no special thing bec the legal drinking age here is 18. I dunno if there is anything "new" at 21 here.

I don't think I've used my opportunity to do either of those things since I turned 21. It's a really non jewish thing to have a party in the bar/casino on the 21st birthday though. When I turned 18 I was more excited, I couldn't wait for the next presidential election so I could actually vote.

16 18 and 21 seem to be non jewish milestones and I am very surprised to read that they mean anything to the women here. I would have thought I'd see more of "how'd you mark your turning of age at 12, bat mitzva" - something like that.

wait a sec- that was my 22nd birthday...

ditto both, except for 22 I wasn't pregnant, "just" still sick Rolling Eyes

16 and 21, though, are insignificant to me as a French girl. For 18, I just did a normal birthday.

It's not a non jewish milestone, just "legal". 16 (or 15 w/ S. americans) are non jewish milestones. Those are coming of age as a woman, but the other one is purely a legal one.

I am older than my dh. So we got married when I was 21 already (don't remember how I spent it and don't like alcohol). For my 22nd, dh took me out to a nice restaurant and surprised me with perfume and jewelry. My dh's 21st is coming up and I'm planning something big.

I can't believe you are not 21 yet! You don't seem that young.....(and I don't feel that old...)

We had gotten engaged a few weeks before my bday, and I knew he was planning something b/c I had overheard a friend mention something bday related on the phone to him when we were together a few days prior to, but it was still really sweet. He took me out to the Sears Tower (which I had never been to) and we spent the day downtown. On the way back, I called another friend of mine and asked her what she was up to, but she said she was going out to dinner with some other friends. Turns out that "dinner" for her meant pulling into my apartment building to surprise me. DH had planned a huge surprise party with all my friends from college and we all hung out. Didn't drink at all or do anything of the typical nature, and we had a great time! Definitely one of the best bdays to date, although he tries to outdo himself with each one, so we'll see... Wink

thats what I was thinking. I was not married until I was almost 26.

at 21? who knows, probably a nice dinner with friends, but just because it was another birthday, nothing specific to 21.

I don't remember exactly, but I was probably studying for midterms. They always seemed to coincide. My roommates probably made me a small party.
