Hadasa, I was preg with twins 2 years ago Y"K!
But the Rav said to only use 3 instead of 5 because I hadn't had the pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound yet (I actually had my appt sheduled for 2 days after Y"K).

So the ultrasound is relied upon for diagnosis of multiple fetuses but not for gender?

The margin of error for 'diagnosing' multiples is much lower than gender identification.
